Hot Tub Leak, What To Do

Hot Tub Leaking?

Are you continuing to enjoy your hot tub for the next season? If you love your hot tub, I am sure you are?

However, a few things can have a great impact and ruin your day or relaxation such as a hot tub leak.

It certainly is frustrating when you have a hot tub leak sealer that isn’t working well.

It’s also frustrating when you can’t figure out where the leak is coming from.

You may also find that the hot tub leaking from the bottom is the problem. If this is the case, you’ll have to do something right away to stop the leak. Of course, you’re likely thinking of the cost of repairing the leak.

There are some leaks that you can fix yourself. However, the leak should be serviced by a professional team, especially if you don’t have experience with hot tub repairs.

There are several hot tub leaks to look out for. You could have the hot tub leaking at union fitting. Alternatively, you may find the hot tub leaks only when the jets are on. It is possible you may find the hot tub leaks when the jets are off.

Here are some ways to recognize leaks and temporarily fix them until a professional can take a look at them.

Hot Tub Leak, What Do I Do?

Places Where the Hot Tub Can Leak

The most common places where the hot tub will leak include the heater, pump, and union fittings. There can also be leaks in the shell of the hot tub, as well as the connections and valves. However, this is not a complete list of all the places you may see a leak. However, it’s a good idea to search these areas if you see water outside of the tub. You’ll also need to know how to repair each leak where ever it is located.

Pump

If you notice a leak in the pump, turn the power off and check to see if the water is still leaking. Look underneath the pump to see if a significant amount of water has already leaked. Underneath the pump is the most common area for a hot tub leak. If there is lots of water under the pump, you’ll have to replace the seal. In some cases, you’ll have to replace the entire pump.

Heater

The hot tub can also leak at the heater. If you’ve checked the pump and didn’t see a leak there, you should inspect the heat assembly manifold. This inspection includes the pressure switch and heater. If you find the water coming from these parts, you’ll most likely have to replace these parts.

Union Fittings

Union fittings are another area where the hot tub could be leaking. The union fittings become loose over the years. If you notice that the fittings are not secure, tighten them manually. Don’t use a wrench to make the union fittings tighter because this could cause damage.

Valves

Inspect the hot tub valves as well. There are many valve styles for hot tubs. The repair needed is determined by the type of valves you have. Knife-style valves have the two parts of the valve bolted together. There’s a gasket in between that can sometimes become weak and cause a leak. Some hot tubs also have valves installed on each side of the pump. These valves prevent water from being drained or turned off before the pump is fixed.

Further Hot Tub Inspection

Look at all the connections on your hot tub to see where the leak is coming from. There are some cases in which tightening a connection or seal can remedy the issue. Check the hot tub shell as well to ensure there are no cracks.
