Summer is the perfect time to enjoy delicious drinks, especially in the mid-afternoon on a very hot day. Here are three drinks that you can make that will give your family a true taste of summer and help you all cool down from the heat. Sit on the balcony or in the shade and sip these delicious summer drinks.

Berry Smoothie

This luscious drink takes advantage of the lovely berries that make summer so delightful. Start with a punnet of fresh strawberries, half a cup of raspberries, and a cup of boysenberries or blueberries. Wash the fruit and discard the stalks of the strawberries. Add the fruit to the blender and blend with two glasses of cold milk and four scoops of vanilla ice cream. Once the mixture is smooth, pour it into a jug to chill for a further 30 minutes.

This yummy and healthy drink will fill four glasses. Cut a fresh strawberry in half to decorate each glass, and sip the berry smoothie through a straw for a real touch of class.

Raspberry Lemonade

Combine one and a quarter cups of fresh or frozen (thawed) raspberries and the same amount of caster sugar in a blender. Blend until the mixture becomes smooth. Remove and discard the seeds sieving the mixture. If you do not have a sieve, you can push the mixture through a thin cloth stretched over a large bowl.

Add in two cups of lemon juice and mix well. Stir in six cups of water and chill the raspberry lemonade in a large jug. Pour the raspberry lemonade into six tall glasses with ice cubes to serve. Your entire family will love this tasty twist on traditional lemonade.

Mint Julep

You need one cup of fresh mint leaves for this recipe. Chop the mint leaves and place the leaves in a heatproof jug, with one tablespoon of sugar. Using a wooden spoon gently crush the mint leaves to release the mint flavor. Add one tablespoon of lemon juice, one cup of pineapple juice and half a cup of boiling water to the mixture. Mix the drink well and cover with plastic wrap. You need to leave the mixture to steep for 30 minutes.

Strain the mixture and place into the fridge until it is cold. Add in one cup of cold ginger ale and mix well, just before you serve the drink. This recipe will make two large cups of the most refreshing mint drink you will enjoy this summer. Serve with ice cubes and a fresh mint leaf in the glass.

These three healthy and refreshing treats will help your family cool down this summer. Each drink is easy to make and your family will love sipping these delicious drinks in the hot afternoon sun.
